Lake Mohegan Swimming Area Closed For Fourth Of July Weekend

Excess rainfall Friday in Fairfield forced the closure of the swimming area.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The swimming area at Lake Mohegan is closed for the Fourth of July weekend due to excess rainfall after Friday’s summer storm.

While the swimming area won't be accessible Saturday and Sunday, the lake’s beach, splash pad and concession are open, according to a Facebook post from Fairfield Parks and Recreation.

As of about 7 p.m. Friday, thunderstorms had generated up to 3 inches of rain in southern Fairfield County, and flash flooding was expected as a result of the downpour. The Fairfield Fire Department in a Facebook post warned residents of the dangers of downed tree limbs after a branch on Route 58 created a hazard Friday for drivers.
