Man Confesses To Fairfield Gas Station Robbery: Police

The man told detectives "he was remorseful and felt compelled by his conscience to turn himself in," according to Fairfield police.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Bridgeport man was charged in a recent Fairfield gas station robbery after he turned himself in to the police last week, according to law enforcement.

Javier Campos, 34, of Maplewood Avenue, was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny in connection with the incident Nov. 29 at the Cumberland Farms and Gulf gas station in the 900 block of Kings Highway East, police said.

The robbery occurred about 11:15 p.m., when a man wearing a black ski mask entered the store, walked behind the counter and ordered an employee to open the cash register, according to police, who said the robber did not show a weapon. The man escaped on foot with about $200, police said.

Campos went to the Fairfield police department Dec. 1 and confessed to the robbery, law enforcement said.

“Campos stated to detectives he was remorseful and felt compelled by his conscience to turn himself in,” according to information provided by Lt. Antonio Granata.

Campos was released on a promise to appear in court and is scheduled to be arraigned March 18, according to court records.
