Man Driving Stolen Car Charged After Traffic Stop: Fairfield PD
When officers approached the car, the Bridgeport man used a screwdriver to turn off the ignition, according to police.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Bridgeport man was recently arrested and charged after he was stopped in Fairfield driving a car reported stolen out of Waterbury, according to police.
John Louis Zayas, 23, was pulled over Feb. 17 near Jelliff Lane and Old Post Road in Southport after an officer ran a records check on the silver Buick Century that Zayas was driving and found it had been stolen, police said.
When officers approached the car, Zayas used a screwdriver to turn off the ignition and told them he bought the vehicle a month ago from a friend for $700 in Waterbury, according to police. Zayas said his friend assured him the vehicle wasn’t stolen, according to law enforcement, but police confirmed with Waterbury officials that the car had been stolen about two weeks before the Fairfield traffic stop.

Zayas, of the 300 block of Remington Street, has yet to enter a plea in the Fairfield case and is next scheduled to appear in court for the larceny charge April 6, according to court records.
