FAIRFIELD, CT — A man wanted in connection with a Bridgeport shooting suffered life-threatening injuries after a crash that occurred while he was fleeing police Wednesday in Fairfield, according to law enforcement.

The incident began just before 11 a.m., when Bridgeport police were notified about a shooting on Helen Street, a department news release said. Officers found the vehicle and driver — Mark Anthony Febres — that they believed to be responsible for the shooting, according to the news release, but when they tried to stop Febres, he fled, leading police into Fairfield.

Just 800 feet past the town line, Febres T-boned a vehicle at Tunxis Hill Cutoff and Villa Avenue, according to Fairfield police Lt. Antonio Granata.

The driver of the vehicle that Febres struck was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, police said. Febres was taken into custody and brought to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with severe injuries to his legs and pelvis, according to police.

Law enforcement found a firearm and shell casings on Febres and in the car he was driving, which Granata said was reported stolen by its owner in Norwalk after the crash.
