Man Stole Family Heirlooms From Fairfield Home: Police

The man has been convicted of 12 burglary offenses since 2017, according to Fairfield police.

FAIRFIELD, CT — An Ansonia man is accused of stealing family heirlooms from a Fairfield home, according to police.

Michael John Fernandez, 34, was arrested last month and charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit burglary and larceny, police said.

The charges are connected to an incident Nov. 30 at a home Bulkley Road, according to police, who said detectives responding to the scene found a back window pushed in and rings, watches, necklaces and other items reported to be family heirlooms missing.

Using surveillance footage and social media, detectives identified Fernandez as the burglar and found his vehicle in December, according to police. Detectives saw property stolen from the home inside the vehicle and obtained a search warrant, police said. An arrest warrant was issued and Fernandez was arrested Jan. 12, police said.

Fernandez has been convicted of 12 burglary offenses since 2017, according to police. He remains in custody on $200,000 bond and has yet to enter a plea, according to court records. His next court date is set for May 12, court records said.
