Coronavirus Vaccine Megasite Opens In Fairfield
As many as 1,800 additional coronavirus vaccine doses will be administered weekly in Fairfield.

FAIRFIELD, CT — As many as 1,800 additional coronavirus vaccine doses will be administered weekly in Fairfield after a vaccination megasite opened last week at Sacred Heart University.
The site is the result of a partnership between Sacred Heart and St. Vincent’s Medical Center, which is a Hartford HealthCare hospital.
“This is really part of our mission, serving the community that we’re part of,” said John Petillo, the university's president and chair of the hospital board. “There’s no better way than offering our facilities and our services.”

Petillo spoke Wednesday at a ceremony marking the clinic's opening; the ceremony was streamed on Facebook Live.
The site is on the university’s West Campus and is expected to provide between 400 and 600 vaccine doses per day. It will be open three days each week. The site will supplement vaccine clinics held by the Fairfield Health Department, which had administered about 13,000 vaccines as of Friday.

“This is a huge, huge resource for our community and for the surrounding communities,” said First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick, who also spoke at the opening ceremony before receiving her first dose of the vaccine.
Several broadcast personalities attended the event, including Dennis House of WTNH News 8, Linda Reynolds of HOT 93.7 and Mike Stacy of Lite 100.5 WRCH. Also present Wednesday was Rodney Davis, the first patient to be hospitalized for the coronavirus at St. Vincent’s about a year ago.
“I’m very thankful to be here,” said Davis, who was 21 when he became ill with the virus and spent weeks in the hospital. “We need to be positive, smile. Summer is coming.”
The Sacred Heart vaccine site is at 3135 Easton Turnpike. Vaccination hours are 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. To schedule an appointment, go to hartfordhealthcare.org/health-wellness/covid-vaccine.
