Mobster's Grandson Kept Guns, Silencers In Fairfield Home: Police

Three of the guns were reported stolen in 1997 out of New York, and six were capable of receiving a silencer, according to Fairfield police.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A New York mobster’s grandson faces more than 20 felony counts after a large number of guns and silencers were found at the younger man's former home in Fairfield, according to the Connecticut Post.

Michael Mallay, 43, is the grandson of Ronald Mallay, who was convicted of running a murder-for-hire operation and given life in prison, the Post reported, adding Mallay’s father, Donald Mallay, had numerous convictions for overseeing a criminal enterprise. In court Monday, Michael Mallay’s lawyer told the judge the guns belong to a family member, according to the Post.

Michael Mallay was arrested Monday and charged with three counts of stealing a firearm, six counts of possessing an assault weapon, seven counts of criminal possession of a weapon, eleven counts of possessing a silencer, and violating a protective order, according to law enforcement.

Fairfield detectives conducted an investigation with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms after the guns and accessories were found in several containers among Michael Mallay’s belongings and turned over to authorities in September 2020, police said.

Law enforcement determined three of the firearms were reported stolen in 1997 out of New York, and six of the guns had barrels capable of receiving a silencer, according to police. Also among the items were 11 silencers and ammunition, police said. At the time the guns were discovered, Michael Mallay was the subject of a protective order that prohibited him from possessing firearms, according to police.

Michael Mallay, who the Post reported is a resident of Duchess County, New York, turned himself in to police Monday and was taken to court for arraignment, law enforcement said. As of Tuesday, he was free on a $250,000 bond, according to court records. He has yet to enter a plea and his next court date is set for June 4, court records said.
