Fairfield Emergency Management Team Readies For 20 Inches Of Snow
Fairfield officials are urging residents to stay home Monday, when up to 22 inches of snow is projected to fall in the area.
FAIRFIELD, CT — With more than 20 inches of snow possible Monday, Fairfield is bracing for a major storm.
The first selectwoman has activated the town's Emergency Management Team to handle the response to the weather event. The school district called a snow day, Town Hall will be closed and a parking ban has been ordered.
The snow started falling overnight, with the National Weather Service predicting an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches in the early morning hours. Snowfall is expected to continue throughout the day and into Monday night, adding as much as another 19 inches. Fairfield will be under a winter storm warning all day Monday, and will be subject to a coastal food advisory for most of the day.

"I activated the Emergency Management Team to plan for and respond to a major winter storm forecast for our area," First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick said in a tweet.
The Emergency Management Team includes Kupchick, the fire chief, the police chief, the public works director, the superintendent of schools, and other top officials and staff.

Fairfield Public Schools canceled all Monday classes and activities, and will update parents Monday about its plans for Tuesday classes.
"We encourage all residents to stay home and stay safe so our dedicated DPW crews can clear the roads," Fairfield officials said in a news release.
While Town Hall will be closed, Fairfield’s Board of Selectmen will meet 4 p.m. Monday as scheduled.
A parking ban will be in place starting 8 a.m. Monday along beach area evacuation routes, including Reef, Fairfield Beach, Rowland, Penfield and Beach roads. Parking is prohibited on the affected streets until public works removes the snow. Veterans Park and Penfield Pavilion are available for overnight parking.
The state has issued a semitrailer ban for interstates in Connecticut, including Interstate 95 in Fairfield.
