Netflix Movie Filming In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT — A crew from Netflix was in Fairfield on Monday to film part of the upcoming thriller, “The Good Nurse.”

The movie, which will star Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain, is based on the true story of the pursuit and capture of prolific serial killer and nurse Charlie Cullen, according to Deadline.

The crew was filming on Black Rock Turnpike between Tanglewood Road and Route 136, according to Lt. Antonio Granata, who said the street was not closed to traffic, but that vehicles were being held and detoured as needed to keep modern cars out of frame for period accuracy. Filming in Fairfield was scheduled to be finished by 5 p.m., but the production was running late as of about 5:15 p.m., according to Granata.

“Traffic is impeded, but it’s not stopped,” he said, adding the crew was expected to relocate to Easton for the duration of Monday’s filming.

So far in 2021, Fairfield has received several location shoot requests, according to Community and Economic Development Director Mark Barnhart.

“We get these requests periodically,” he said, noting productions are often drawn to the town’s waterfront and town center, or to Southport Village.

Fairfield has welcomed crews from Hallmark movies in the past, but also teams working on television advertisements and student productions.

“The Good Nurse” began filming in Stamford last week and is set to return to the city for several days starting Tuesday. Last month, an online casting call indicated the production was seeking background actors from the area.

In “The Good Nurse,” Redmayne will take on the role of Cullen and Chastain will play a nurse who worked alongside the killer and helped police capture him. Tobias Lindholm is set to direct the project, which is based on a book by Charles Graeber, according to the Internet Movie Database. Krysty Wilson-Cairns wrote the screenplay.

Redmayne recently starred in the Netflix film "The Trial of the Chicago 7," which was nominated this year for an Academy Award for Best Picture. He also had roles in the "Fantastic Beasts" film series, "Les Miserables" and "The Theory of Everything."

Chastain has starred in films such as "Zero Dark Thirty," "Molly's Game," "Interstellar" and "The Help." Nnamdi Asomugha also recently joined the cast of "The Good Nurse."
