Obituary: Kimberly J. (Burke) Hoover, 52, Of Southport
Hoover, who fought a heroic battle against breast cancer, was a teacher at the Southport Congregational Church Preschool.

Kimberly J. (Burke) Hoover, age 52, beloved wife of Michael Hoover, of Southport, passed on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, after a heroic and inspirational battle with breast cancer. Born in Denville, New Jersey, to Shaun T. and Loretta R. (Monchun) Burke, Kim grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey. She attended Ridge School and Ridgewood High School before moving to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where she would finish high school in Manheim Township. Kim would go on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in education from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Kim’s passion for teaching led her back to Ridge School in Ridgewood, this time as a teacher rather than a pupil. Upon beginning her own family, her career shifted to full-time “Momma Bear” to raise her adored sons, Charlie and Tommy. Once her boys grew older, Kim resumed teaching at the Southport Congregational Church Preschool. Kim was a fitness enthusiast, frequently playing tennis and going on daily runs. She volunteered for the Fairfield Junior League and was also a member of the Bellarmine Society of Fairfield Preparatory School. In addition to her beloved husband, Mike, Kim is survived by two cherished sons, Charlie and Tommy Hoover; adoring parents, Shaun and Loretta Burke, of Old Saybrook, Connecticut; loving in-laws, Bob and Pat Hoover, of Naples, Florida; caring sister, Kristy McGrath, of Marblehead, Massachusetts; and devoted brother, Shaun Burke Jr., of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Friends and family are invited to gather 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2021, at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in Kim’s memory to the Southport Congregational Preschool, P.O. Box 366, Southport, CT 06890. To leave an online condolence, visit www.SpearFuneralHome.com.
