As the girls were growing, Sylvia, who adored children, turned to substitute teaching in the Fairfield school system to fulfill her passion for nurturing young people. Even to this day, some of those students remember her with great fondness and an appreciation for the impact she had on their lives.
Sylvia and David were truly one heart. Together they traveled the world, loved playing golf, going to the opera and being with their many wonderful friends, but most of all they adored spending time with their children, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Because they were both only children it meant everything to them to see the family grow from two to 23 and fortunate enough to have been a part of so many happy occasions.
Sylvia is survived by daughter Barbara (Larry) Yurdin, Harriet (Jerry) Busker, grandchildren Beth (Edward) Metzendorf, Scott (Rachel) Yurdin, Michael (Kim) Feinstein, Kenneth (Natalia) Feinstein, and great-grandchildren Kate and Julia Metzendorf; Bryce and Kylie Yurdin; Ben and Tyler Feinstein; Elliot, Maya and Spencer Feinstein, and her beloved cousin, Helen Shatanof, who was like a sister to her.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Rodeph Sholom Cemetery, 183 Kings Highway, Fairfield.
Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
