William J. O'Neil, age 86, beloved husband of Andrea O'Neil, died Sunday, February 11, 2024 at his residence. Born in Southport, he was a lifelong Fairfield resident.

Following his 42 years of employment with the US Postal Service, Bill worked as a substitute teacher with the Fairfield Public Schools for 22 years. He was veteran of the US Army and was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was a member of the Gaelic-American Club and a longtime member of the Fairfield YMCA where he enjoyed swimming a mile a day for many years. Bill was an avid reader, and he loved history, travel and baseball which he especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play.

In addition to Andrea, his devoted wife of 35 years, he is survived by sons, Sean O'Neil and his wife
Lauren of Sandy Hook, and Kevin O'Neil of Danbury; daughters, Deirdre Annis and her husband Rob of Indianapolis, Jacy Rosado and Cindy Rosado, both of Fairfield; brother, Thomas O'Neil and his wife Maureen of Sandy Hook; and his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Sean O'Neil, Liam O'Neil, Logan O'Neil, Alex Doak, Lucy Rosado and Samantha Rosado.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Friday at 9:15 am from the FAIRFIELD FUNERAL HOME of EDMUND W. DOUGIELLO, 36 South Pine Creek Road and at 10 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment, with military honors, will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Bridgeport.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. Contributions may be made in Bill's memory to Project Precious Rescue at www.pprct.org.
