'Pea-Size Hail,' 40 Mph Winds Forecast For Fairfield Area

FAIRFIELD, CT — The National Weather Service warned people in the Fairfield area of strong storms Thursday afternoon.

“The strongest of these was located near Fairfield, moving east at 25 mph,” the service said in a special weather statement about 4 p.m. for southern Fairfield and southern New Haven counties. “Winds up to 40 mph, pea size hail, and heavy rain (is) possible with these storms.”

The statement comes as Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to bear down on the area overnight and into Friday morning.
