Pepe's Pizza Announces New Business Venture

Pepe's announced the launch of its new retail tomato line, which is available at its Fairfield restaurant.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Frank Pepe's Pizzeria is now marketing the tomatoes that make up the sauce for its famed pies by themselves. Pepe’s announced this week the launch of its retail tomato line to the market. Pepe’s has been serving its world-famous New Haven-style pizzas since 1925.

Fresh tomatoes were always at the center of founder Frank Pepe’s life and the team’s lasting commitment to finding the best product continues to be at the forefront of the brand today. Sold in 28 ounce cans, Pepe’s “Genuine Italian Tomatoes” are hand selected by Frank Pepe’s family members, who happen to be experts in finding fresh and flavorful tomatoes, officials said in a press release announcing the launch.

“Our guests come from all over the world to experience the genuine taste and quality of Pepe’s pizza, which includes the handpicked ingredients we use to thoughtfully craft our pies,” said Gary Bimonte, grandson of Frank Pepe and director of quality assurance & training. “We’ve always taken the time to find delicious ingredients and we take pride in knowing our customers are able to experience Pepe’s in the palm of their hands. We’re thrilled to bring a special Pepe’s tradition to homes across the country.” Read more from the press release below:

Once a year, Frank Pepe’s grandsons, who now serve as co-owners of the world-renowned pizzeria, come together for a blind taste test of freshly-harvested tomatoes that come right from their family’s hometown of Naples, Italy. The two grandsons sample over five different tomatoes, gathering their thoughts on which ones are perfect for crafting Frank Pepe’s Original Tomato Pie and their other iconic pizzas. It’s not just a matter of taste, but of the tomatoes’ density, texture, and transition of flavor once they are cooked. The team is excited to bring a taste of the pizzeria right to its consumers’ kitchens.

Priced at $3.50 per can, Frank Pepe’s “Genuine Italian Tomatoes” are available for purchase at all Pepe’s restaurants in New Haven, Fairfield, Manchester, Danbury, West Hartford, Waterbury, and Uncasville, Conn., Warwick, R.I., Yonkers, N.Y., and Chestnut Hill, Mass. Three-packs of the cans are available for $10 on www.PepesPizza.com.
