​Pequot Library's Summer Book Sale Welcomes Community Partners

The 57th annual summer book sale will offer 140,000 discounted books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl LPs, and audio books over the five day period.

From Pequot Public Library: Known as “The Best Book Sale in New England,” Pequot Library’s 57th Annual Summer Book Sale, July 21 – 25, 2017 will offer more than 140,000 greatly discounted books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl LPs, and audio books during the five-day sale. Items can be found under the tents on Pequot Library’s Great Lawn and parking lot, and in the Auditorium, Reading Room, and Rennell Room. Admission is free and open to the public. Proceeds directly fund Pequot Library's over 750 annual programs and events. The gently used books for all ages have been donated by the community. Fairfield’s First Selectman, Michael Tetreau will be this year’s official book sale cannon starter at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21.

New this year on Sunday, July 23, Pequot welcomes three community partners. From 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. the Fairfield Canine Cooperative will have information about adoptable dogs; from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Jim Royale will perform on drums through Music for Youth, and The New Paradigm Theatre will have an information booth all day. Fairfield Canine Cooperative is a rescue organization based in Fairfield, Connecticut, dedicated to saving innocent animals, providing comfortable shelter in a farm-style setting, and carefully placing them with forever families. Music for Youth’s mission is bringing classical music, professionally performed, into the lives of young people in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The New Paradigm Theatre is a professional theatre company fostering creative problem solvers, leaders, and global citizens through theatre arts education and productions.

At Pequot’s 57th Annual Summer Book Sale visitors can peruse over 60 categories, including the favorites: Art & Architecture; Astrology & Occult; Atlas & Dictionary; Biography; Business; Children/Young Adult; Classics; Coffee Table; Cookbooks; CT & NE & NY; Crafts & Hobbies; Diet & Nutrition; Education & Textbooks; Exotica; Family & Parenting; Fiction; Foreign Language; Gardening & Nature; Graphic Novels; Health Issues; History & Politics; Humor; Impulse; Large Print; Law & Crime; Literature/Anthology/Writing; Maritime; Military History; Music; Mystery; Old and Interesting; 'Ologies; Performing Arts; Pets & Animals; Photography; Poetry; Recorded Books; Records, CDs, Tapes, DVDs, Videos; Religion & Philosophy; Science; Science Fiction; Self-Help; Sets; Sheet Music; Signed Books; Sociology & Anthropology; Specials; Spies/Espionage; Sports; Travel; Transportation. Featured this year from a private collection are hundreds of vintage stock and bond certificates and related books that will be conveniently located in one location (the main Reading Room of the Library).

Hours and pricing for the book sale is as follows: Friday, July 21, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - double the marked price (with a discount of 20% offered on all "non-special" purchases that total more than $250 on that day); Saturday, July 22, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - priced as marked; Sunday, July 23, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - priced as marked; Monday, July 24, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. – half the marked price; Tuesday, July 25, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - $5 per bag day. Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express accepted. Help Pequot Library save the environment; if possible please bring your own reusable bags.

The Food Truck schedule is as follows: Lunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be by Herbaceous Catering and Alene’s Ice Cream truck will be on the Great Lawn every afternoon. Children from the Wonderland BookSavers will have a lemonade stand each day.

Pequot Library thanks the more than 200 volunteers who make this sale a success, as well as the sale’s media sponsors: WSHU Public Radio and Serendipity magazine.

Parking will be available in Pequot Library's parking lot or the Trinity Episcopal Church* parking lot (on the corner of Pequot Avenue and Center Street) or in the Southport Congregational Church parking lot (524 Pequot Ave. and across from the church) or, on the weekend, in the train station parking lot (400 Center St.).

*Trinity Church will run Parking for Food in conjunction with the Pequot Library Book Sale. Church parking will be available Friday-Sunday, July 21-23, 8:30-5:00 p.m. Trinity volunteers will be on hand to collect food and cash donations in support of food pantries at St. Luke's and St. John's in Bridgeport.
