Popular Diner Closes Abruptly In Fairfield

The closing took customers, and town officials, by surprise.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The popular Athena Diner, located at 3350 Post Road in the Southport section of Fairfield, closed abruptly over the weekend, leaving more questions than answers for confused customers.

The Fairfield Citizen reports a handwritten sign on the diner’s door on Saturday morning simply said, “Closed. Diner Sold.” No sale has been recorded yet with the town, according to the Citizen.

Despite the closure, the Athena Diner Southport’s Facebook page had auto-posts on Father’s Day and National Fudge Day (June 16) from an apparent subscriber service. Customers asked about the diner’s abrupt closing in the comments, but the questions went unanswered by any representatives of the restaurant.
