Popular Fairfield Restaurant Narrowly Escapes Fire Damage

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield restaurant narrowly escaped major damage during a nearby vehicle fire, according to officials.
Emergency crews received numerous calls roughly 8:30 p.m. Tuesday about the incident near Shu, 1795 Post Road, according to Fairfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Kyran Dunn. Firefighters reached the scene of the blaze in four minutes, where they found a pickup truck on fire near the business, a department Facebook post said.
“The radiated heat posed a severe danger to the restaurant,” Dunn said.

Shu is a popular downtown eatery and recently received the statewide Readers’ Choice award for best Chinese restaurant in Connecticut Magazine’s 2021 Best Restaurants awards. Firefighters responding to the blaze worked to ventilate smoke out of the $1 million structure that houses the business, according to a department report.
After being engulfed in flames, the truck was severely damaged. Its driver and passenger escaped without injuries.
