Riverfield Elementary To Close For 2 Days Due To Coronavirus Case

FAIRFIELD, CT — Riverfield Elementary School will close for the rest of the week after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus, according to school district officials.

The closure Thursday and Friday will allow for cleaning and contact tracing, according to a message Wednesday from Superintendent Mike Cummings and Health and Safety Compliance Liaison Angelus Papageorge. Virtual parent conferences scheduled for Wednesday evening will go on as planned, and remote learning for all students will begin 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Fairfield Health Department contact tracing team will notify anyone who needs to self-quarantine, the message said.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, three students and two staffers across the district were confirmed to have the virus, according to district data. Another 23 students and one staff member had recovered after testing positive. So far, cases within the district have been contained to Fairfield Ludlowe High School, Fairfield Warde High School, Tomlinson Middle School and Riverfield.

Additionally, 47 students and staff across the district are in quarantine. Community members at a total of 14 district sites have tested positive, are in quarantine or both.
