Road Rage Involving Firearm Leads To Fairfield Traffic Stop: Cops

The accused was held in lieu of a $50,000 bond, State Police said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Georgia man was stopped in Fairfield after a road rage incident Friday night on Interstate 95 by Exit 34, according to State Police.

State Police said they received a report about a road rage incident involving a gun around 11 p.m., and stopped Dariel Pope, 23, in the I-95 southbound Fairfield rest stop area.

The vehicle was described to police as a blue Hyundai sedan with a Georgia license plate that was being followed by the complainant in a Chevy Colorado, State Police said.

Pope's car was located on I-95 southbound, passing Exit 24, State Police said. A stop was performed, and the driver pulled over in the Fairfield rest area, authorities said.

State police said they found a 15-round Ruger .22-caliber magazine located in Pope's right pants pocket, fully loaded.

State Police also said they found a Ruger 22 Charger pistol in the car, and it had one round in the chamber with a 25-round dual magazine containing 23 and 16 rounds. The firearm and magazines were seized.

Pope is charged with second-degree threatening, possession of large capacity magazines, weapons in a vehicle, risk of injury to a minor, first-degree reckless engagement, and second-degree breach of peace. He was held on $50,000 bail.
