Sacred Heart University Students Assist Startup Company With Branding

Students at the Fairfield-based university are helping WeSkreech, a tech startup specializing in personal safety devices, grow its business.

FAIRFIELD, CT ? More than a dozen students at Sacred Heart University have been gaining hands-on business experience by assisting a safety technology startup ahead of its upcoming product launch.

Since last fall, WeSkreech, a tech startup specializing in personal safety devices, has collaborated with SHU students on marketing, sales, and operations. The company, founded by Shana Moore, offers a personal safety alarm that uses patent-pending sonic technology to deter potential threats.

Moore and Larry Lopata, WeSkreech?s chief technical officer, have worked closely with students on the university?s West Campus, providing an immersive learning experience. The collaboration aligns with SHU?s emphasis on community safety, as students frequently engage with organizations such as the Center for Family Justice in Bridgeport, which supports victims of domestic violence and promotes violence prevention.

?Our mission is profit with a purpose,? Lopata said. ?We?ve been fortunate to work with such dedicated students who share our commitment to safety.?

Moore echoed the sentiment, noting that the partnership has been mutually beneficial. ?As professionals from a different generation, we?ve learned as much from the students as they have from us,? she said. ?It?s been a rewarding experience to work with such talented young professionals.?

For the students, the opportunity provides practical experience in fields they hope to pursue. Hailey Filera, a senior studying strategic communication, public relations, and advertising, has focused on developing the company?s social media strategy.

?I?ve enjoyed creating content and applying what I?ve learned for a brand that prioritizes personal and community safety,? Filera said.

Sophomore Jeremy Knobel, a finance and business economics double major who runs his own business, has worked on structuring WeSkreech?s sales operations.

?Learning new strategies for sales and operations has been invaluable,? Knobel said. ?I?m excited to continue growing as WeSkreech expands.?

Nick Milidantri, a senior psychology major with minors in human resource management and global business management, was one of the first students to join the project and now oversees daily operations at the company.

?Being part of WeSkreech is the best hands-on experience any business student could ask for,? Milidantri said. ?We?re gaining real-world experience in networking, goal setting, and entrepreneurship.?

The partnership reflects Sacred Heart University?s broader mission to combine academic learning with practical applications, providing students with skills that extend beyond the classroom.
