Small Business Spotlight: Fit Dog Fairfield
Our small business series shines a light on local business owners in the community.

Every local business has a story worth sharing with the community. And that’s the belief behind this exciting series we’ve kicked off at Patch — to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

How did you come up with the name?
I wanted a name that would reflect my love of dogs and keeping dogs healthy via running/walking. Almost every dog, regardless of age, can benefit from exercise.

Why start a business in this town?
My husband and I made Fairfield our home in 1996, starting our family shortly thereafter. Staying close to home and being accessible to our children was my priority when starting my own business.

Briefly, what business are you in?
Primarily a leashed dog-walking business, another large component is dog sitting – cats welcome too!
What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
I’m not alone in saying balancing work and family is my biggest challenge. However, as owner/operator I can only schedule so many hours in a day, and that is my biggest difficulty.
What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
My favorite moment has to be when I open the door and a dog(s) greets me as if I am family. I am truly grateful to have gained their trust. My proudest achievement comes with every personal referral.
How does your business give back or get involved in the community?
I have donated my services for school auction and for families struggling with sudden injury or illness.
