Tractor-Trailer Fire On I-95 Causes Lane Closures In Fairfield
The vehicle had a brake system fire that spread to a tire and then to a load of asphalt shingles, according to a Fairfield fire official.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A tractor-trailer fire resulted in lane closures Friday afternoon on Interstate 95 in Fairfield.
The blaze occurred about 2:40 p.m. on the southbound interstate near the Fairfield rest area, according to fire department Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir. The driver detached the tractor from the trailer, which likely had a brake system fire that spread to a tire and then to a load of asphalt shingles the vehicle was carrying, Kalapir said.
Smoke from the fire created a safety hazard for drivers and emergency personnel, Kalapir said, adding the interstate was reduced to one lane as firefighters responded to the blaze. The road was clear by 5:15 p.m.
