FAIRFIELD, CT — Plans are underway to upgrade traffic signals in Fairfield.

The state Department of Transportation has announced traffic control signal improvements in several southwestern Connecticut towns, including Fairfield, according to a recent Facebook post from the Fairfield Police Department. Upgrades will include removal of nighttime flashing, installation of traffic detection sensors, and replacement of traffic controllers at select state-owned and maintained signals.

Research indicates when late-night flashing is discontinued, there is a 52 percent reduction in nighttime crashes and a 47 percent reduction in crashes resulting in fatalities or injuries, the police department said.
