Traffic Stops On Merritt Parkway Set For Sunday Night
Police cruisers and crash trucks will stop traffic repeatedly for 15 minutes at a time in Fairfield, Trumbull, Westport and Norwalk.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Drivers can expect short-term traffic stops overnight Sunday into Monday due to a utility project on the Merritt Parkway, according to the state transportation department.
Motorists should plan for lane closures and traffic halts northbound and southbound on the Merritt in Fairfield and Trumbull between Exits 48 and 44, and in Norwalk and Westport between Exits 38 and 41, according to a Connecticut Department of Transportation news release. During the traffic halts, state police cruisers and crash trucks will stop traffic in both directions for 15 minutes at a time between 9 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday. Four traffic halts are expected.
The utility project consists of installing new cables and fiber optic lines on poles across the parkway northbound and southbound at Sport Hill Road in Fairfield, between Exits 47 and 46, at Main Avenue in Norwalk, and between Exits 40b and 40a on the Merritt. The new cable and fiber lines cross over the parkway, requiring the traffic halts.
