Fairfield's neighbors to the west, Westport, are 2-0 so far in Little League World Series play -- but that run took a dramatic turn Sunday in the game against the Eastlake Little League team from Sammamish, Wash.
They tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning. Thanks to a strong outing from starting pitcher Harry Azadian, the score was 9-1 at the halfway point of the game.
But then Washington threatened -- big time.

Eastlake scored two runs in the fourth, and then another four runs in the bottom of the fifth, shrinking Westport's lead to 9-7. Alex Reiner, pitching in relief following a two-thirds inning effort from Charlie Roof, held Washington at bay with a one-two-three final inning that ended with a strikeout.
Westport will play again Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pa., for the U.S. semifinals.Â
