CHANNAHON, IL — If you know someone looking for a new full-time job in the Joliet area, Amazon wants to hear from them. Amazon's new 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center is weeks away from opening near the Channahon exit along Interstate 55. Amazon's new Channahon warehouse needs to hire at least 1,000 full-time workers as soon as possible.

On Wednesday morning, crews from Gallagher Asphalt were busy constructing the new road in front of the new Amazon building. Bradley Street, which overlooks I-55, is being widened as part of the major development project in Channahon.

Amazon's Director of Operations Jerry VanHook told Joliet Patch the new building will open sometime this fall. Amazon's new Channahon fulfillment center will have an address of 23714 West Amoco Road.

"It's going to draw 1,000-plus more jobs .... We're going to start filling them immediately," VanHook told Joliet Patch's editor during a phone interview Wednesday morning.

Amazon said the new full-time employees in Channahon will be packing and shipping large customer items such as sports equipment, patio furniture, fishing rods, pet food, kayaks, bicycles and larger household goods.

Amazon also said it offers full-time employees comprehensive benefits including full medical, vision, and dental insurance as well as a 401(k) with 50 percent match starting on day one. The company said it offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families.

Amazon said it has already opened a new sort center on adjacent land in Channahon at 23700 W. Bluff Road. Amazon said it has part-time openings for that location.

At sort centers, associates sort customer orders by final destination and consolidate them onto trucks for faster delivery, the company announced Wednesday.
