Channahon Deploys Taser On Unruly Trucker: Deputy Chief
Anthony Deshawn McCormick, an over the road semi driver from Michigan, remains in the Will County Jail.

CHANNAHON, IL — The Channahon Police Department doesn't make many felony arrests in a given week, but this week was different. On Monday night, Channahon police used a Taser to subdue 34-year-old Anthony Deshawn McCormick, a truck driver who hails from Highland Park, Mich. On Friday, McCormick still remained lodged inside the Will County Jail, unable to post 10 percent of his $5,000 bail.
The staff of Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow has charged McCormick with two counts of aggravated battery, plus resisting the arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
The criminal complaint states that McCormick pushed Channahon Police Officer Sean Wuethrich and that McCormick struck the officer about the body with a vehicle door.

Additionally, McCormick refused to exit his vehicle as commanded by the police and he refused to put his hands behind his back during the handcuffing process, the criminal complaint reflects.
Channahon Deputy Police Chief Adam Bogart told Patch on Thursday that officers were notified that McCormick's semi was blocking a gasoline pump at the new Speedway gas station on Route 6. When McCormick finally left the Speedway, he nearly ran over one of the employees, Bogart said.

Later, officers found McCormick's truck was parked along the nearby frontage road, which is known as Thomas Dillon Drive. The truck was blocking the road for other motorists, the deputy chief said.
Officers approached the truck, but McCormick remained inside his sleeper cab for several minutes refusing to come out, Bogart said.
When the Channahon officers tried to get McCormick to step outside his truck, he would not do so, and he tried to flee in his vehicle, Bogart said.
A Channahon officer grabbed the passenger side door and McCormick pushed the officer, according to the deputy chief.
The Channahon officer used his Taser to gain control over McCormick, who was eventually arrested and delivered to the Will County Jail around 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
Channahon's deputy chief told Patch that this week's felony arrest involving someone becoming combative and aggressive toward Channahon officers is part of a trend that police departments across the nation are facing.
