Coroner: Man Drowns At Lake In Grundy County

BRAIDWOOD, IL — Grundy County Coroner John Callahan has identified the 56-year-old Braceville man who died Saturday afternoon in a kayak incident in Shadow Lakes, which is in Braidwood.

Richard R. Smith was pronounced dead shortly before 4 p.m. at the Morris Hospital emergency room where he was transported by a Coal City ambulance.

Callahan said it is unclear exactly what happened as Smith was alone in the area at the time of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing with Callahan’s Office and the Illinois Conservation Police.
