Deadly I-55 Crash Leads To Felony Charges: Glasgow Announces

WILMINGTON, IL — A Nov. 22 deadly crash involving a late night wrong-way driver traveling along Interstate 55 near Wilmington resulted in eight felony charges announced Friday by Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow.

Erik E. Christensen, a 48-year-old Wilmington resident, is being charged with six counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of aggravated driving while license revoked.

The Illinois State Police investigated the fatality that claimed the life of Nicholas J. Ercolini, 33, of Blackstone, Illinois, which is about 10 miles southeast of Streator.

The young man was killed by a motorist traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-55 at milepost 238 in Wilmington, police have said.

The criminal defendant had not been taken into custody as of 1:30 p.m. Friday.
