Kinzinger took to Twitter to thank the voters for re-electing him to Congress. With 99.4 percent of all precincts reporting, Kinzinger had 65.2 percent, with 213,503 votes, while his challenger from La Salle had 34.8 percent, with 114,079 votes. The New York Times projected Kinzinger as the winner on Election Night.

A deluge of mail-in votes cast this election amid the coronavirus pandemic — many of which will not be counted tonight — makes this election unlike any in the past. Officials have two weeks post-election to count all provisional votes.

The 16th Illinois Congressional district covers all of Boone, Bureau, Grundy, Iroquois, LaSalle, Lee, Livingston, Ogle and Putnam counties and parts of DeKalb, Ford, Stark, Will and Winnebago counties.

Last week, Brzozowski, the Democratic nominee for Illinois District 16, issued a statement voicing her disagreement with the Republican Senate's vote to make Amy Coney Barrett a U.S. Supreme justice, filling the seat of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died in September at age 87.

“The confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett is the culmination of a process that has been unnecessarily expedited and dangerously politicized. What this process has shown is a dangerous disregard for precedent and a descent into corruption that will shake the faith of many in our nation’s democratic ideals.

"At a time when our stalled political leadership should have been working day in and day out to provide real relief from the health and economic impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Senate Republicans were fast-tracking a nominee just days before a national election. That her appointment likely heralds rollbacks of rights for the LGBTQ+ community, women, workers, and immigrants is a travesty. But the most urgent issue facing the Supreme Court is healthcare. Millions of Americans rely on the Affordable Care Act to protect their families, and the case before SCOTUS threatens every single person with a pre-existing condition."

In October, Kinzinger issued a news release regarding the gridlock in Washington, D.C. to pass Speaker Nancy Pelosi's coronavirus bill. Kinzinger wanted his constituents to know that he voted against Pelosi's $2.2 trillion legislative amendment on H.R. 925.

“The coronavirus pandemic should not be partisan, the lives impacted should not be used as tools in an election bid, and the recovery efforts by Congress should not be made political. But here we are again," Kinzinger declared.

“Yesterday, Speaker Pelosi brought forth the HEROES Act 2.0 with a list of non-COVID related provisions and excessive demands for more government spending in areas that are not related to the COVID crisis. It is our duty to come together and address the urgent needs of those directly impacted by the pandemic—like the unemployed, those that are vulnerable to the virus, our front-line workers in our hospitals and grocery stores, the airline industry that is days away from having to cut thousands of jobs, and our schools that are trying to figure out how to safely reopen—just to name a few.

“This 2,152 page bill was not a good-faith attempt to find common-sense solutions by the Speaker. This ‘revision’ was just a tool for Democrats to use as they head into the election—it’s not a real effort to help the American people. And it’s sad."
