Freight Train Derailment Near Minooka: Report

MINOOKA, IL — A freight train derailment on Thursday morning in a rural stretch of Minooka has prompted area officials to close several area roads, according to a report. Chicagoland FireGround Scanner reported that the Minooka Fire Protection District has responded to the scene of several overturned rail cars near South Tabler Road and Lyondell.

One person who posted a photo on Facebook of the overturned rail cars blocking the intersection claimed that none of the tanker cars had spilled.

Later, the Channahon Police Department issued a bulletin indicating that two rail cars were blocking the road at 8920 South Taber Road. No hazardous materials were spilled and there were no public safety threats. Still, motorists were urged to stay away from the area.
