I-55 Channahon Crash Involves Tanker, Semi, 2 SUVs

CHANNAHON, IL — The Illinois State Police said that four vehicles were involved in a crash along the southbound stretch of Interstate 55 near Arsenal Road on Thursday afternoon, but no major injuries were reported. The crash occurred at 1:51 p.m. and involved a tanker truck, two sports utility vehicles and a semi-trailer.

According to Illinois State Police, all four vehicles were traveling on Interstate 55 southbound at Arsenal Road in the right lane and three of the vehicles slowed down because of traffic ahead.

Police said that a tanker truck carrying water struck the back end of a sports utility and the initial crash caused a chain-reaction collision with another sports utility vehicle as well as a semi-trailer.

Several people were taken by ambulance to area hospitals with minor injuries, authorities said.

The southbound lanes were shut down for about 70 minutes. At 3:10 p.m. the left lane of southbound I-55 was reopened, although the right lane remained closed.
