Minooka Shooting On Wabena, Woman, 20, Airlifted To Loyola
The overnight shooting in the 100 block of South Wabena Avenue marked the first time Minooka has had a shooting victim in 2021.

MINOOKA, IL — A 20-year-old woman in Minooka was airlifted from Morris Hospital to the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood after being shot in the shoulder early Thursday morning. The woman's 28-year-old boyfriend has been arrested on charges of reckless discharge of a gun, Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer told Patch.
Devonte Wandick is now in custody at the Grundy County Jail in Morris. Minooka's police chief said that investigators believe that Wandick did not intend to shoot his girlfriend.
Minooka police say the shooting happened around 12:20 a.m. When officers and Minooka Fire paramedics got to the house, they found the shooting victim outside on her porch. She had suffered one gunshot wound to her shoulder, the chief said.

He believes that alcohol was involved and that Wandick "was intoxicated" and that he dropped the loaded gun in the couple's bedroom.
When the gun discharged, a bullet hit Wandick's girlfriend in the shoulder.
The couple have a 5-month-old child, and the shooting happened in their bedroom not far from the baby, according to the chief. Several other relatives also live inside the house in the 100 block of South Wabena Avenue in addition to Wandick, his girlfriend and their child.
Meyer said Thursday's shooting on Wabena marked the first time somebody in the village of Minooka has been the victim of a shooting so far this year.
