New Amazon Warehouse Will Be Built In No Time

Channahon anticipates its new Amazon fulfillment center will be up and running by fall.

CHANNAHON, IL — If you've driven south along Interstate 55 in recent weeks, you may have noticed a construction crane towering over the skyline as you approach Channahon. Even though many construction projects scale back their work over the winter, construction of the giant new Amazon fulfillment center is moving ahead full throttle.

Last week, hundreds of contractors remained hard at work erecting the massive walls of concrete. Channahon's new Amazon warehouse will encompass 1.1 million square feet. Amazon intends to add more than 500 permanent jobs, with wages starting at $15 per hour, when the plant is ready to open this fall.

The new fulfillment center will package and ship items such as sports equipment, patio furniture, fishing rods, pet food, kayaks, household goods and bicycles, Amazon has announced.

Amazon's new warehouse is going up along Bradley Street and Amoco Roads on the east side of I-55 at Channahon's Crossroads 55 Business Park.

"Illinois is a great place to do business and we are excited to continue our growth and investment in the state with our new fulfillment center in Channahon," Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s Vice President of Global Customer Fulfillment, remarked in an October 2019 press release.
