Take a Bike Ride and Get a History Lesson

Learn about the Illinois and Michigan Canal and the prisoner of war history of the Will County Forest Preserve.

Bike and Brake for History will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s McKinley Woods – Frederick’s Grove, located on McKinley Woods Road, south of Route 6.

Areas of McKinley Woods are teeming with history. Learn about the Illinois and Michigan Canal, the Civilian Conservation Corps, and the prisoner of war history of the preserve as you bike a 7-mile roundtrip stretch of the I&M Canal Trail. Bring a bike, water and a bike helmet.

This free program is for ages 12 and older and it requires the ability to ride a bike on a crushed limestone trail. Registration is required; call 815-886-1467.
