Channahon, IL - In 2005 when my family built their home, tans, oak and hunter green were all the rage. Some 15 years later, as you step into any model home, you can't help but notice how popular white cabinets, gray walls and those lovely positive affirmations you see. You know what I'm talking about; "Home, a story of us". As we start a new decade and a new year, I decided to take a dive into the top 4 latest trends for around the home in 2020.
50 Shades of Gray
While the book written by E.L. James may have been popular in the homes of desperate housewives across America, so too was the recent love for grays for the home. In fact, Mindful Gray by Sherwin Williams was among the most popular. However, just like my love of chunky monkey ice cream by Ben & Jerry's - sometimes you just need a change. Natural colors are back in! From pale blues to rich browns - letting the outdoors in is on its way back. See, 2005 is back! Whew!

I've Got a Bone To Pick
The herringbone pattern will continue to be extremely popular on both floors and walls. Forget that chevron pattern from 2012, herringbone is definitely whats in now.

Large Tile
The large title trend began really in 2008 and some 12 years later, it's still in - if not bigger and bolder. One amazing thing about using larger tile in the home is that with fewer grout lines, it allows small spaces to have a more open feel. Will 16 inch by 16 inch title ever make its way back - I'm not sure. I still wish I could find a VCR to watch my old videos - one can dream, right?
LVT to the Rescue
I have real hardwood flooring in my home and some 15 years later, I absolutely hate it. Why? Well, I have a dog and her name is Holly; she's 11 years old and a feisty chihuahua. Well, Holly over the years has made a few scratches in the floor and I'm at a point where I have to redo the flooring. What a pain! Well, LVT flooring has become the perfect alternative to hardwood flooring. Beyond being much more affordable, LVT flooring is far more durable, it insulates sound perfectly and quite frankly, even the boujiest of million dollar homes are using LVT.
One Last Thing...
In 2019, more vinyl records were sold then CD's. Pretty neat, right?
