20 Best Hospitals in Illinois: U.S News and World Report 2016-2017 Rankings

Northwestern Memorial Hospital ranked as the best Illinois hospital in the 2016-2017 U.S. News and World Report list released Tuesday of the best hospitals in the country. Northwestern ranked No. 8 on the national list. The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota ranked No. 1 in the United States.

The annual list, now in its 27th year, considers how each hospital performs across different specialties, procedures and conditions.

Here are the top 20 Illinois hospitals, according to U.S. News and World Report, including tie rankings:

3. University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago

4. Advocate Christ Medical Center, Oak Lawn

5. Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood

6. Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge

7. Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield

8. University of Illinois Hospital, Chicago

9. NorthShore Evanston Hospital, Evanston

10. OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria

11. Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst

To compile the rankings, U.S. News and World Report used several objective measurements, such as patient survival, number of patients, and staffing numbers. The publication also used survey data from qualified physicians, who were asked to name the top five hospitals in their specialty. In all, 153 hospitals made the rankings in at least one specialty.
