$10,000 Reward Offered After Child Shot in the Face
A young woman in an apartment also was shot in the head Tuesday when someone opened fire on a crowd in the Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Chicago, IL — A 3-year-old child was shot in the face late Tuesday night as stray bullets sprayed an apartment on Chicago's South Side in Woodlawn.
A 28-year-old woman who was in bed was also shot, in the head, and she was in critical condition at Stroger Hospital late Tuesday, reports WGN. Her condition was upgraded to stable condition Wednesday morning.
The child is in stable condition at Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, reports ABC Chicago. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that relatives identified the child as Kavan Collins.

The shooting took place at 64th Street and King Drive some time after 9 p.m. Witnesses told ABC Chicago that a car pulled up near the apartment building and someone inside started firing shots at a crowd of people.
Pastor Corey Brooks, who helped broker a gang truce in the neighborhood last week, told NBC Chicago neighbors know who did the shooting. Project HOOD is offering a $10,000 reward.

“We cannot continue to allow children to be shot when they are just outside with their mom trying to play and have a good day,” Brooks said. “So we’re going to make sure when you shoot someone in Woodlawn, from this point on, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that you’re arrested and that everything is thrown at you that can possibly be thrown at you."
Another 3-year-old child was shot in the back on Father's Day, leaving him paralyzed. In the aftermath of that shooting, two rival gangs worked out a truce at the behest of community leaders.
In an interview with WGN Radio’s Judy Pielach last week, Brooks said 100 gang members representing various factions and groups got together Tuesday evening behind closed doors at New Beginnings Church in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood.
A demonstration will take place in Chicago on Federal Plaza today in observance of the National Day of Action to Stop Gun Violence.
