4 Dead, Including 14-Year-Old, In Shooting At 'Large Gathering'

Eight people were shot, four fatally, in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood. Two other children were among the wounded.

CHICAGO, IL — A 14-year-old boy was among four people killed in a shooting late Saturday in Englewood, Chicago police said. Another four people were wounded in the mass shooting just after 11:30 p.m.

Police said four male suspects approached on foot and opened fire on a large gathering in the 6100 block of South Carpenter Street. Another two children — an 11-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy — were wounded in the shooting, along with two men, ages, 29 and 35.

Police said the 14-year-old was pronounced dead at Comer Children's Hospital after being shot in the back.

The 11-year-old suffered graze wounds to the leg and ankle and the 15-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Both were in fair condition at Comer Children's Hospital.

The 29-year-old man was in fair condition at St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot, and the 35-year-old was in critical condition at Stroger Hospital after being shot in the hip, leg, arm and wrist, police said. Both of the adults who were wounded are known to police, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Along with the 14-year-old, three other unidentified male victims were killed. Two were pronounced dead at the scene and one victim, who suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and back, died at University of Chicago Hospital, according to police.

The 14-year-old was one of two children killed by gun violence Saturday in Chicago. A 7-year-old girl who was visiting Chicago for the 4th of July was fatally shot while standing on a sidewalk around 7 p.m.
