ACROSS ILLINOIS — Each year, the Fourth of July brings with it a number of time-honored traditions: lighting fireworks, grilling out and dressing up your pets in over-the-top red, white and blue garb.

We recently asked Illinois Patch readers to send photos of their dogs, cats, lizards and other critters decked out in their most festive getup. Readers enthusiastically responded, and the results are just as adorable as you might expect.
