55 MPH Wind Gusts Possible, Storms Move Into Area Wednesday Night

Storms are possible late Wednesday into Thursday, and could feature gusty winds and small hail.

ILLINOIS — A chance of thunderstorms is possible over the entire Chicago late Wednesday, as a wind advisory remains in effect until midnight. Thunderstorms are possible late Wednesday night, and a couple of these storms could have wind gusts over 50 mph and small hail, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

The wind advisory has been issued for Lake, McHenry, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Cook, Kankakee, and Will counties. According to the advisory, south winds of 25 to 30 mph are expected with gusts of 45 to 50 mph. A few gusts to 55 mph are even possible through mid-evening Wednesday, the weather service said.

Thunderstorms are also possible south of Interstate 88 on Thursday through the early afternoon, according to the weather service. Again, wind gusts over 50 mph and small hail are possible; and locally heavy rainfall is also likely.

The Chicago area has been enjoying some mild temperatures the last few days, but cooler temperatures are set to return by the weekend. Friday has a high of 55 degrees, and Saturday a high of 50, according to the weather service forecast.
