ILLINOIS — A survey related last week by a biotechnical products distribution company found that 59 percent of Illinois residents who responded said they would avoid contact with friends and colleagues who are unvaccinated.

As of Tuesday, around 45.7 percent of Americans were fully vaccinated. In Illinois, state health officials say 53.67 percent of those age 12 and up are fully vaccinated and more than 61 percent have received at least their first dose.

Around 40 percent of vaccinated Americans who responded said they are prepared to end friendships with those who aren't vaccinated.

But you might want to take the results with a grain of salt.

The poll, conducted via a Google survey, has a relatively small sample size. According to MyBioSource.com, the company that conducted it, said just 3,400 people responded.

The company said the purpose of the survey "is to find out if this will impact our social habits, particularly in terms of coming into contact with those who choose not to be vaccinated."

The survey also found that 1 in 3 respondents support incentives to get people vaccinated. In Illinois, the latest incentive is a vaccine lottery offering $10 million total in cash prizes and scholarships.

How do Illinois' survey results stack up to the rest of the country? Well, Idaho had the lowest number of respondents, 11 percent, who said they'd avoid contact with unvaccinated friends and colleagues. Meanwhile, Alaska had the highest number, with 64 percent.

Here's a sampling of how many respondents in other states said they will avoid contact with friends and colleagues who aren't vaccinated:

  • Mississippi: 15 percent
  • Iowa: 33 percent
  • Wisconsin: 40 percent
  • Texas: 43 percent
  • New York: 46 percent
  • Indiana: 48 percent
  • California: 62 percent
