Active Shooter Drill Taking Place at Dirksen Federal Courthouse

Expect increased police and fire activity in the area.

CHICAGO, IL — Those in the area of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse on Friday need not be alarmed by increased police activity, as authorities run through an active shooter drill.

The drill will take place in the lobby of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse located at 219 S. Dearborn St., Chicago. The lobby area of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse will be closed starting at 3 p.m. and will reopen at 4:45 p.m.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service, Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, Federal Protective Service, and the Department of Homeland Security – Immigration and Customs Enforcement will begin the drill at 3:30 p.m. The drill is expected to conclude by 4:45 p.m. The drill is closed to the public, including members of the media, and residents and visitors near the courthouse will notice increased police and fire activity in the area.

This drill is being conducted in cooperation and coordination with the Building Security Committee of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. The U.S. Marshals Service is charged with the security and protection of the federal judiciary. Federal Protective Service is charged with the protection of federal buildings and facilities.
