Air And Water Show Will Feature Only Navy Blue Angels This Year

CHICAGO, IL — The Air and Water Show, Chicago's annual summer event, will take a more laid-back approach this year. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will still perform their flight demonstrations over the lake, but without the parachuters and stunt planes that headlined the show in the past.

From noon to 1 p.m. on Aug. 21 and 22, Chicago will present the Blue Angels, ditching the Air and Water Show name. Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a press release the "re-imagined" air show will still be free to watch along the lakefront. Normally, the show attracted millions from Fullerton Avenue to Oak Street beaches.

In past years, boats would simulate water rescue scenarios and Navy SEALs would leap from planes, making fun formations while free falling into the lake.

Those interested can still see — and definitely hear — the Blue Angels practice on Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
