Amazon Go Store Planned For Chicago's Illinois Center
The new location, which will open next year, will be the online retail giant's 4th no-checkout shop in the city.

CHICAGO — Another Amazon Go store is set to open in Chicago next year, making it the fourth location in the city for the online retailer's cashierless shops. The new store is planned for the Illinois Center, but no date has been announced on when it will open.
Amazon's newest Chicago shop will occupy a 2,000-square-feet space in the mixed-use development center, south of Wacker Drive and east of Michigan Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune. As with the other Amazon Go locations, shoppers will scan their phones when they enter the store, sensors will track what they buy, which will include convenience store staples such as candy, pre-made sandwiches and drinks.
Two Amazon Go stores have already opened in the Loop — at 113 S. Franklin St., near Willis Tower and at 144 S. Clark St. A third location is set to open in a 1,700-square-foot space attached to Ogilvie Transportation Center at at 500 W. Madison St.

Chicago, however, is still waiting for Amazon's largest possible opening in the city. Last month, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said the company will announce the location of its highly coveted second headquarters by the end of the year. Since October 2017, cities around the country — including Chicago — have been trying to land Amazon's HQ2, which is expected to cost the retail giant $5 billion to build and could create an estimated 50,000 jobs.
