Arrest Made In Shooting Of Chicago Cop On City's West Side

Chicago police said Tracey Thomas Jr. shot at five officers in the South Austin neighborhood, hitting one in the hand.

CHICAGO — A man suspected of shooting at five officers, hitting one in the hand, on the city's West Side on Saturday has been charged. Tracey Thomas Jr., 29 faces five felony counts of attempted murder in connection with the shooting incident in the 200 block of North La Crosse in the South Austin neighborhood.

Chicago Fire Department units helped police during what was described by police as a SWAT incident before the arrest was made. Police were in the area on a "shots fired" call when the officer was shot.

Police have not updated the officer's condition Sunday morning.

Thomas Jr. was also wanted on two warrants, according to police.
