Beware Of 50-MPH Wind, 18-Foot Waves Along Chicago Lakefront
National Weather Service cautions Chicagoans to avoid lakefront, as gale-force winds, high lake levels and dangerous waves hit shoreline.

CHICAGO — High winds could kick up dangerous waves along the Chicago lakefront, causing flooding and erosion Tuesday night, the National Weather Service warned.
Northerly gale-force winds that could reach 50 miles per hour and produce 18-foot waves are expected until midnight Monday. A lake shore flooding advisory is in place until 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the weather service.
"Large waves combined with high lake levels will lead to minor flooding of parking lots, parks, and paths, along the immediate lake shore," the weather service flooding advisory states. "Additionally, a one-foot increase in the water levels is possible along river mouths, canals, and ports along Lake Michigan. Stay dry when waves are high!"
