Chicago Area Could See Large Hail And Thunderstorms Tuesday Night

The National Weather Service said thunderstorms and 'hail large enough to dent vehicles' are possible on Tuesday night into Wednesday.

CHICAGO— In a classic tale of crazy Midwestern weather, the Chicago area could see hail large enough to dent vehicles during a thunderstorm Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms and hail could follow the sunny, warm days Chicago saw in the beginning of the week. Temperatures that were hitting the mid-80s will give way to a 50 percent chance of strong thunderstorms at around 10 p.m. Tuesday. The weather service said these thunderstorms are expected to be strongest north of Interstate 80.

On Wednesday, temperatures could drop from a high of 70 degrees to a low of 50. The temperature range will likely trigger thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening that could also produce hail and strong winds. Forecasters say these storms will likely be strongest south of I-80.
