Chicago Cubs Pitcher Alec Mills Throws No-Hitter
While the sports world had its eye on football, Alec Mills tossed the 16th no-hitter in Chicago Cubs history Sunday afternoon.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Chicago Cubs pitcher Alec Mills threw a no-hitter Sunday afternoon, striking out five Milwaukee Brewers batters in the North Siders' 12-0 win at Miller Park in Milwaukee. It's the second Major League Baseball no-hitter of the shortened 2020 season. The first was thrown by Chicago White Sox ace Lucas Giolito on Aug. 26.
Mills' achievement is the 16th no-hitter in Chicago Cubs history.
Baseball is incredible. Alec Mills wasn’t recruited to the University of Tennessee at Martin. He walked by practice one day and told the coach he was good enough to pitch on the team. A tryout followed. 22nd round pick. Today, he threw a no-hitter for the @Cubs. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Mills' Sunday gem was the first no-hitter thrown by a Cubs pitcher since 2016, the year the team won the World Series. That year, Jake Arrieta earned the achievement in a 16-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

In the no-no, Mills threw a career high 114 pitches in just his 15th career start, according to ESPN. Prior to 2020, Mills had one major league career victory on the mound.
The baseball rarity came as much of the Chicago sports fan base was following the return of professional football and the Chicago Bears' come-from-behind victory over the Detroit Lions.
