Chicago Lakefront Parks, Playgrounds, Indoor Pools Set To Reopen

CHICAGO — After an 11-month shutdown, Chicago's lakefront parks, playgrounds and indoor pools are set to reopen as the city's coronavirus test positivity rate fell to the lowest level since the onset of the pandemic, officials said.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot's administration announced that Chicago Park District crews will begin to unlock gates on more than 500 playgrounds and reopen public access points connecting to parks easy of Lake Shore Drive.

Lightfoot shutdown the lakefront on March 25 after many people continued to gather there in defiance of stay-at-home orders.

Park district swimming pools are set to open for "limited aquatics programming" during the Spring session. Registration for Spring recreation programs starts March 8. More information is available at chicagoparkdistrict.com.
